String Instrument Instruction Through the String Instrument Instruction program the BMC is able to offer violin and cello lessons free of charge to interested students beginning in the 3rd grade. Lessons are taught by a BMC faculty member and are currently offered during the school day at Academy School, Green Street School and Oak Grove School. A presentation is given at the beginning of each school year to introduce this program to student and their parents. Instrument rental options are available. Prima Orchestra Prima Orchestra is designed to give new string players an opportunity to make music with others, learn the basics of orchestra playing, and to improve general music skills. Games and music composed exclusively for this orchestra are used to teach basic ensemble playing techniques. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends who play music. The orchestra is open to beginner and intermediate string players from any school, and is conducted by BMC Music School faculty members David Tasgal and Claudia Campazzo. The orchestra performs two concerts a year. Rehearsals are 45 minutes long and registration is open on an on-going basis. There is a fee of $25 per semester. Extension Band The Extension Band is open to young musicians who are in their 2nd and 3rd year of playing their instrument. Under the direction of Jim Kurty, the Extension Band meets one afternoon a week at Academy school. A presentation is given at the beginning of the school year and families are sent registration forms with each student. This is a great opportunity to improve musical skills, perform and have fun.
