CONCERTO COMPETITION 2012

The Brattleboro Music Center is pleased to announce the Windham Orchestra’s 26th annual concerto competition, open to serious music students in grades 9-12 who live or attend schools in the following counties:

VT: Windsor, Windham, Bennington
NH: Cheshire, Sullivan, Grafton
MA: Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire

Auditions for the competition will be held Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Brattleboro Music Center, 38 Walnut Street, Brattleboro, VT, 05301. Applications must be received on or before January 29, 2012. No recorded auditions will be accepted. There is a $25 application fee.*

Contestants may play any concerto (or other accompanied solo piece) within the limits of the following orchestration: strings, 2fl, 2ob, 2cl, 2 bsn, 4hrn, 3trp, 3 trb, tuba, timp. All auditions must be accompanied; please provide your own accompanist.† Once the application deadline is past, you will be scheduled for an audition time. At the audition, you may play one or more movements, with a maximum playing time of 10 minutes. At the concerts, the winner may play one movement or the entire piece. The winner will receive $200 and perform with the Windham Orchestra at its concerts on Thursday, March 22, 2012 and Sunday, March 25, 2012 in Brattleboro. The Windham Orchestra is made up of amateur and professional musicians and will be conducted by Hugh Keelan.
