The Sarasa Ensemble begins its 12th season with a program of Handel works for two sopranos, two violins and continuo.  Handel wrote some astonishingly brilliant music for two sopranos that transport the listener up into the vocal stratosphere of “sparkling coloratura, and lavish suspensions.”  Likewise his wonderful sonatas for two violins have a vocal style full of virtuosity and sonorous beauty. The program will include Cantatas, Arias for the sopranos and several of the Sonatas for two violins.

The two sopranos Kristen Watson, based in Boston and Kathryn Mueller, based in Arizona are members of the ensemble Les Sirenes which specializes in the exploration of the soprano voice and the Baroque repertory. The two violinists, Beth Wenstrom and Adriane Post, have both recently graduated from the new program at Juilliard in Historical Performance. They live in New York City are two up and coming violinists who have been described by the New Yorker as "elegant and sensual, stylishly wild." Playing continuo, cellist and director of Sarasa, Timothy Merton has lived many years in Putney, VT while running the Sarasa Chamber Music Series in Cambridge and Concord, MA.  Harpsichordist, Charles Sherman, is also familiar to local audiences having performed many times with the New England Bach Festival.
