4 pm  Concert
6 pm  Master Class

The Brattleboro Music Center will present the distinguished flutist and widely acclaimed teacher Bart Feller in a concert and master class on Memorial Day, May 30.  The concert at 4pm and the master class between 6pm and 8pm will take place at the West Village Meeting House in West Brattleboro.

Admission to the concert and master class are free to students of the BMC under 22.  For others admission to the concert is $10 and to the master class also $10.  Parking is plenteous.

Bart Feller is Principal Flute of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the New York City Opera, and the Santa Fe Opera, and has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Bargemusic and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.  Mr. Feller has appeared as concerto soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Jupiter Symphony, and, on many occasions, with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and is a frequent guest at flute festivals and masterclasses both in America and Korea.  Among the summer festivals he has participated in are the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Marlboro Music Festival, OK Mozart International Festival, and the Grand Teton Music Festival. He is on the faculty of Rutgers University/Mason Gross School of the Arts and the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School.

Mr. Feller has interesting associations with Brattleboro and members of its musical community.  As a junior high school student on Long Island, New York, he played in the Long Island Youth Orchestra, where he idolized the playing of his older flutist colleague, Robin Tinkler, now Robin Matathias, teacher of flute at the Brattleboro Music Center and Keene State College.  And at the time he was playing in the Long Island Youth Orchestra he was studying with Alex Ogle, who also teaches at the BMC.  As further connection to the Brattleboro area, in his late teens and early 20's Mr. Feller came in summers both to study with the internationally renowned teacher Marcel Moyse in West Brattleboro and to participate in the Marlboro Music Festival.

On his program on May 30 Mr. Feller will perform works by Blavet, Takemitsu, Gaubert, and Martinu, and joined by flutist Alison Hale, Ms. Matathias and Mr. Ogle, the charming Flutes en Vacances by Jacques Casterede.  Gregory Hayes, piano and harpsichord, will also collaborate.

At the conclusion of the concert members of the audience who wish may take a brown bag dinner with the artists between the end of the concert and the beginning of the master class at 6.

Admission to the concert and master class are free to students of the BMC under 22.  For others admission to the concert is $10 and to the master class also $10.  Parking is plenteous.
