PERFORMANCE FOR SCHOOLS / Home-Schooled Children:

African-American Spirituals Meet the Orchestra

Thursday, March 25, 9:30 and 11:00 am, Latchis Theatre, Brattleboro, VT

In a special children's version, the Windham Orchestra, under the direction of Hugh Keelan, celebrates the poignant and powerful spirituals created by enslaved African people in America, and the music they have inspired. Program includes Antonin Dvorak's Symphony "From the New World", and a collection of the most famous African-American spirituals arranged for voices and orchestra by Hugh Keelan. The performance features the Windham Orchestra’s 2010 High School Concerto Competition winner, well known local singers, a local youth choir, and an interactive sing-along with the Orchestra.

This concert is part of the Brattleboro Music Center’s Music in the Schools program and gives hundreds of school-age children the opportunity to experience and enjoy a full symphony orchestra with a performance designed especially for them.
