The gripping Ligeti Horn Trio was just such a piece, one that the artists had explored for 10 1/2 weeks over two summers before giving a performance that had everyone cheering. Coupled with a beautiful Haydn Quartet and the wonderfully romantic Mendelssohn String Quintet in A Major, it makes for a wonderfully diverse program especially in the hands of violinist Soovin Kim and his exceptional young colleagues. What makes Marlboro performances so special? As one Chicago critic wrote, "the secret is a sense of joy."
